Bencao Gangmu, also known as the Compendium of Materia Medica, stands as the most extensive and thorough medical text in the annals of traditional Chinese medicine. Compiled and written by Li Shizhen during the Ming Dynasty, spanning 27 years, this compendium lists, analyzes, and describes all plants, animals, minerals, and objects believed to possess medicinal properties. It epitomizes the pharmaceutical advancements of East Asia before the 16th century.
